3 Inspiring Websites About Creativity

When you need inspiration about creativity and doing creative work for a living, where do you go? You can check out these 3 great websites about creativity.

I'm fascinated by doing creative work. Not so much for the result, the art, the product you create, but for the process itself. I believe in my heart the joy, learning, growth, and connections are in the process of doing creative work.

It has always fascinated me how people do what they do.

In my search for great websites about creativity and doing creative work for a living, I had trouble finding websites and businesses run by women. I found two, though. Nothing against the dudes, but I do like to see successful female entrepreneurs.

3 inspiring websites about creativity

Creativity and being creative are about the work. Work that brings up fear, and emotional and creative blocks. Doing creative work for a living, is personal work in a way, that working for someone else isn’t.

This is why I love shining a light on creatives that inspire me. I hope they’ll inspire you too.

Austin Kleon

Austin Kleon has written a brilliant book about creating "Steal like an Artist - 10 Things Nobody Told You about being creative."

2 things you should know according to Austin:

  1. Don't wait until you know who you are to get started

  2. Side projects and hobbies are important.

His other book "Show Your Work" is equally as good. What is so refreshing about how Austin Kleon writes about creativity, is that it's down-to-earth and simple. And true.

There was an advert once in Britain about some kind of wood primer for houses, I think. The catchphrase was "It does exactly what it says on the tin".

That's how I think of Austin's thoughts on doing creative work. He tells it like it is. It does exactly what it says on the tin. Love.

The Marginalian

Maria Popova has been writing for well over 15 years on Marginalian, which used to be called Brainpickings, about art, culture, books, psychology, science, and other brain pickings. She doesn’t actually have creativity as a category, but the whole site is a homage to creativity, in my opinion.

There is so much interesting reading on that blog. I do not know how she keeps that writing pace.

91 Magazine

91 Magazine is an online magazine that supports small creative businesses, and just about creativity as such, but I find the mag super inspiring.

Reading about the different small creative businesses is a great eye-opener in the variety of creativity that turns into a business.

They have a bunch of affordable lessons and workshops to help small businesses thrive. The online workshops are hosted by industry experts such as Studio Cotton’s Aime Cox (SEO) and include topics in Lifestyle and business, social media, photography, you name it.

This magazine is too juice for me to list here, just have a look for yourself.
